HAS THE DUKE GONE BROKE?

Some one once told me this man has a spare key to Aso Villa, but I waved it aside. Nduka Obaigbena  seem to have lost grip of what he preaches on the pages of his paper. His staffs have drawn a battle line to demand their entitlement which they say is more than seven months!

Well, I would have gone on and on to talk about this, especially is newest baby- Arise TV, but an online portal- Huffington Post posted this article on the Duke as he's fondly called by close friends.

US PRESIDENT, BARACK OBAMA TO VISIT NIGERIA

Goodluck Jonathan and Barack ObamaAt last the President of the United States, Barack Obama, would visit Nigeria on May 28, 2013, as part of a three-nation tour of Africa.

This ends speculation of the Obama scorn with the flawed elections in 2007 that brought Umaru Yar’Adua to the Presidency.

Seen as long overdue but coming at a time when security is the number one item on the country’s agenda, the 44th President of the United States is expected to parley with President Jonathan on how to tackle the niggling problems of insecurity, the economy and trade relations between both nations.
President Obama would be interested in hearing President’s Jonathan’s plan to control the Boko Haram insurgents who he plans to offer amnesty, even as the sect continues to slay hundreds in their quest to end western education in the country apart from kidnapping foreigners for ransom. The growing bases of Al Qaeda, a long term enemy of America and its allies, along the Lake Chad region resulting from their recent dislodgement from Mali may find space on their agenda.
Both men are likely to contemplate the resurgence of Niger Delta militancy, which had simmered with the granting of amnesty by former President Yar’Adua.
On the political side, they may weigh the propriety of a Jonathan candidacy in 2015 and the implications for democracy not only for Nigeria, but also for the African continent as well as the implication of good governance as exemplified by Nigeria for the stability of the sub-region.

Obama’s visit is believed to be five years late given that he was billed to have visited the country in his first term in office, especially when he visited other African countries, including Ghana, which is only 30 minutes away from Nigeria by flight. Of that snob, Nobel Literature Prize winner, Professor Wole Soyinka, said, “If Obama decides to grace Nigeria with his presence, I will stone him. The message he is sending by going to Ghana is so obvious, is so brilliant that he must not render it flawed by coming to Nigeria any time soon.

JONATHAN CALLS POLICE COLLEGE TV DOCUMENTARY A SMEAR CAMPAIGN AGAINST HIS GOVT

President Goodluck Jonathan on Friday surprised the authorities of the Lagos State Police Command when he paid an unscheduled visit to the Police College, Ikeja.
With the President were the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 2, Mr. Mamaah Tsafe; the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Umar Manko and other military and air force officers.
Jonathan, who arrived at the college premises at about 3 pm, immediately proceeded on an inspection tour of the hostels, college kitchen, dining hall and the Officers’ Mess.
For the college authorities, the visit was nothing short of an embarrassment as the commandant of the college, CP I.F. Yerima was unable to tell the President how and when Channels TV filmed the decay in the college.
In an attempt to salvage the situation, Yerima had turned to his deputy and other senior officers of the college for assistance but all kept mute.
Enraged, Jonathan declared the documentary by the TV station a smear campaign.
He said, “This is a calculated attempt to damage the image of this government. The Police College, Ikeja is not the only training institution in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, a crowd of recruits, who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the President, hailed him repeatedly for his visit.
They said, “Our number one President, the God sent President, the President of Nigeria, among others.” Jonathan acknowledged the cheers by raising his right hand.
However, a senior police officer of the college told Saturday PUNCH on the condition of anonymity that the decay in the college began more than a decade ago.

ORUBEBE, AMAECHI IN WAR OF WORDS

The Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, has accused Rivers State Governor and the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, of disrespecting President Goodluck Jonathan.

Orubebe claimed that Amaechi had gone on air to say that governors of the Niger Delta states were ready to take over the construction of the East-West Road.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday night shortly after inspecting the East-West Road, the minister alleged that the state governor was arrogating powers that did not belong to him (Amaechi) to himself.

Also describing Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, as a slum, the minister urged Amaechi to busy himself with the task of developing the state.

“If today, the governor of Akwa Ibom State is saying these things, I will sit down and reason with him, but not the governor of Rivers State. He is only talking; almost all the roads he (Amaechi) started are abandoned,” Orubebe noted.

However, Amaechi’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. David Iyofor, described Orubebe’s accusation as ludicrous and bizarre, adding that at no time did the governor disrespect President Jonathan.

Iyofor said the minister’s allegations were an attempt to divert attention from his failure to deliver on the East-West Road.

He said, “Amaechi has tremendous respect for the office of the President of Nigeria and President Goodluck Jonathan.

“The office of the President of Nigeria is a big institution that deserves utmost respect and it would be grossly irresponsible for anyone to disrespect Mr. President, which unfortunately Minister Orubebe is doing by dragging the President’s name into his inability to deliver on the East-West Road.”

He recalled that the governor led the people of Rivers to deliver the highest vote by any state in the country for Jonathan during the last presidential election.
